Violeta Šoblinskaitė Aleksa was born in 1954 in Mažeikiai. She earned her specialist teaching degree in German language and literature from Vilnius University. She has worked for regional and national press and as the fiction editor for the cultural journal Nemunas. In 1999 she moved to Veliuona and since 2016 has been the head librarian at the Veliuona town library. 

She has published nine books of poetry, six books of prose and eight plays for children; she has translated 14 novels, 13 plays for children and adults and libretto for an operetta. Her poetry and prose has been translated into Russian, German, Latvian, Polish, English, Georgian, Belorusian, Ukrainian, and French.  

She has received several literary prizes, including the Commemorative Medal of Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė Serve Lithuania, awarded by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, the Jurbarkas region municipality award, and the medal in honour of Kaunas mayor J Vileišis. In 2021 she received the Georgian PEN centre prize and the cross of Saint Ilia the Righteous awarded for the best work by a foreign author.
