132 participants, among them 22 from abroad, took part in the DPF'2004 on 29th September – 4th October. The annual anthology of the festival was published in time. All poets published in it took part in readings:

The festival started on the 29th of September with a poetry reading by Sam Hamill (USA) in the Writers' Club in Vilnius moderated by Kerry Shawn Keys and Mindaugas Kvietkauskas (translator). On the next day readings by Swiss poets Jürg Halter, Pedro Lenz, Jurczok 1001 together with their translators Antanas A. Jonynas, Laurynas Katkus and Gytis Norvilas, and traditional readings by young poets moderated by Gytis Norvilas took place there.

This year we continued the cycle of four festivals related to the elements, dedicating this third one to air. The theme of the conference was "Poetry and the Elements: Air, Vibrated by Sound." DPF's guests were the arts which are connected to air, expressing themselves through sound by using the air and similar mediums. The conference was moderated by Karolis Baublys and Kęstutis Nastopka, papers were read by Mykolas Katkus, Jaan Malin, Esther Morgan, Kęstutis Nastopka, Audinga Peluritytė, Kornelijus Platelis, Tomas Staniulis, Dovilė Zelčiūtė, and Agnė Žagrakalytė.

The programs in Druskininkai and in Vilnius changed very little All the traditional events took place there: two evenings of poetry, presentation of books published during the year, chamber and night readings, the presentation of works by guests from abroad in Vilnius, and the evening in the Užupis Café. Saturday morning the superfinal contest of the Poets' Basketball League (PBL) DPF Cup Urbs Contra Orbem (The City Against the World) took place in Druskininkai Sports' Centre.

The Jotvingiai Prize this year went to Stasys Jonauskuas for his selected poems "Žolės balsas" (Vilnius, Vaga, 2004), The Prize for Poetry Debut went to Donatas Petrošius for his first poetry collection "iš tvermės D""(Vilnius, Publishing House of Lithuanian Writers' Union, 2004). Winners of the competition for one anonymous poem: 1. Andri Snaer Magnason (translated by Jurgita Marija Abraitytė), 2. Rimvydas Stankevičius, 3. Aleksej Aliochin (translated by Antanas A.Jonynas), Vyturys Jarutis, Esther Morgan (translated by Sonata Paliulytė). Winners of the competition for an anonymous poem of the best sound: 1. Mindaugas Valiukas, Daiva Čepauskaitė, Arvydas Genys. Competition "Sport's poetry, poetry's sports" was won by 1. Vladas Braziūnas, 2. Gintaras Patackas, 3. Aleksej Aliochin (translated by Antanas A. Jonynas).
