He studied at Vilnius University, Krakow\u2019s Jagiellonian University, and Oxford University. He researches and translates multilingual Lithuanian literature. From 2008\u20132018, he was the Director of the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. From 2019\u20132020, he was the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. Since 2023, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University. He is the author of two books of poetry: <em>Rabi <\/em>(1998) and <em>Gruntiniai vandenys<\/em> (Ground Water, 2024). His essay collection <em>Uosto fuga<\/em> (Harbor Fugue, 2016) was awarded the Lithuanian Writers\u2019 Union Prize. Several of the essays were translated into English for the <em>Vilniius Review<\/em>.
