He graduated from Tbilisi State University with a degree in philology. Shamugia is the author of four poetry collections: \u10d0\u10dc\u10e2\u10d8\u10e2\u10e7\u10d0\u10dd\u10e1\u10d0\u10dc\u10d8 (Anti-Panther\u2019s Skin, 2007), \u10e3\u10de\u10d8\u10e0\u10d0\u10e2\u10d4\u10e1\u10dd\u10d1\u10d0 (Advantage, 2010), \u10d3\u10d0\u10e3\u10ef\u10d3\u10dd\u10db\u10d4\u10da\u10d8 (Akathist, 2011), \u10e8\u10d8\u10d6\u10dd\u10d2\u10d0\u10d3\u10dd\u10d4\u10d1\u10d0 (Schizosociety, 2015). His poems have been translated into more than 20 languages. Paata Shamugia is a two-time recipient of the SABA Sakartvelo National Literary Prize. He works as an editor for the magazine Liberali and the contemporary art website demo.ge.
