He studied Lithuanian philology at Vilnius University. Ali\u0161auskas worked as a literary critic and journalist at the cultural weekly Literat\u016bra ir menas and the newspaper Lietuvos rytas, as an advisor to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, and as an editor at the Office of the President of the Republic of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Writers\u2019 Union Publishing House. He is the author of two poetry books: <em>Prisukama karalyst\u0117<\/em> (Clockwork Kingdom, 1996) and <em>Rentgeno nuotrauk\u0173 albumas<\/em> (An Album of X-Rays, 2007). Ali\u0161auskas has edited anthologies of the poets Sigitas Geda and Justinas Marcinkevi\u010dius and a number of books of interviews, including with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus. He is also the author of film and TV screenplays and librettos.
