He studied at Dubno Pedagogical School, M. Gorky Literary Institute (Moscow), and taught for several years in school. In 1985, he founded the literary group Bu-Ba-Bu (Burlesque \u2013 Bawdy \u2013 Buffoonery) with Yuri Andrukhovych and Viktor Neborak, and organized poetic performances. Author of the novels <em>\u0420\u0456\u0432\u043d\u0435 \/ \u0420\u043e\u0432\u043d\u043e (\u0421\u0442\u0438\u043d\u0430)<\/em> (Rivne \/ Rovno: The Border, 2001), <em>\u0425\u0432\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0431\u0430 \u041b\u0438\u0431\u0435\u043d\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0444\u0442\u0430<\/em> (Liebenkraft's Disease, 2010), <em>\u0425\u0430\u0440\u043a\u0438\u0432<\/em> 1938 (Kharkiv 1938, 2017). Irvanets has also written plays and translates literature from Belarusian, Polish, French, Russian, and Czech.
