He studied Sociology at METU and worked as an advertising copywriter. His first poetry book \u201c<em>Kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 Bulamam\u0131\u015f Sorular\u201d <\/em>(Questions who could not find their answers) was published in 1981. Erg\u00fclen published 13 poetry, and 12 essay books. He is a winner of various Turkish poetry prizes and the director of the International Eski\u015fehir Poetry and the \u0130zmir International Literature festivals. He gives lectures at universities over creative writing, poetry and philosophy and organizes workshops over creative writing and poetry. Two of his books are published in France.
