About the Festival

The international annual literary festival Druskininkai Poetic Fall started in 1990 and at the beginning was organized by the Lithuanian P.E.N. Centre. The event for the first ten years took place in the first half of October in Druskininkai, the resort town in the south of Lithuania and Vilnius. During those years, the event has become popular in Lithuania and abroad, and has become a favorite of both writers and the public.

The main goal of the festival is to bring together the community of poets, give them conditions for sharing their works, reflect on and evaluate their texts, and identify the changes in the current trends. In 1990, the Lithuanian P.E.N. Center launched the festival, and in 2001, the public organization "Druskininkai Poetic Fall" took over the whole management. Since 1997, it has been under the patronage of Center "Dainava" in Druskininkai. The festival stands out for its anonymous poetry contests, available for participation by anyone who is willing to, and its search for connections with other arts.

Each year, the festival publishes an almanac that presents the works by its guests in their original languages with a translation into Lithuanian, and 5 to 6 works by Lithuanian authors with translations into English.
