Mindaugas Kvietkauskas (Lithuania)

Mindaugas Kvietkauskas was born in 1976 in Panevėžys. He studied at Vilnius University, Krakow’s Jagiellonian University, and Oxford University. He researches and translates multilingual Lithuanian literature. From 2008–2018, he was the Director of the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. From 2019–2020, he was the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. Since 2023, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University. He is the author of two books of poetry: Rabi (1998) and Gruntiniai vandenys (Ground Water, 2024). His essay collection Uosto fuga (Harbor Fugue, 2016) was awarded the Lithuanian Writers’ Union Prize. Several of the essays were translated into English for the Vilniius Review. Among his many translations from Polish and Yiddish are works by Czesław Miłosz, Moyshe Kulbak, and Avrom Sutzkever.
